Overall aim | This course is designed for those who wish to pursue a career as an advanced practitioner in providing specialised care for children and adults experiencing troublesome tinnitus and hyperacusis. Students will gain a wider spectrum of theoretical knowledge and clinical skills with regard to tinnitus and hyperacusis rehabilitation. This course will outline psychometric assessment, appropriate referrals to ENT and mental health, evidence-based practice, application of specialist cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) in tinnitus and hyperacusis rehabilitation, and service development. |

Study recourses provided or required | Below is the list of the materials which are provided to students or are required: 1) Pre-course reading materials which include research papers on the topics listed below are provided to students after registration for the course
4) Recommended textbooks (these are not provided): Wells, A. (2013). Cognitive Therapy of Anxiety Disorders: A practical manual and conceptual guide. John Wiley & Sons. McKenna, L., Baguley, D., & McFerran, D. (2011). Living with tinnitus and hyperacusis. SPCK. Stallard, P. (2005). A clinician guide to think good feel good: Using CBT with children and young people. John Wiley & Sons. 6) Students will be provided with the instructions on how to prepare their counselling video task. Students need to have access to a video camera (this is not provided). |
Teaching and learning methods | A wide range of learning methods are applied within this specialist course comprising: interactive lectures, group discussions, self-directed learning, reflective writing, critical writing, and practical exercises through role play. Pre-requisites | A degree at BSc, MSc, or doctorate level, or other qualifications of an equivalent standard, in one of the disciplines listed above in the “target audience” section. No previous experience in tinnitus and hyperacusis management is required. Experienced professionals in the field also benefit. |
